I really don't have the words to describe my full experience curating and then playing this set for Denman Dance Temple. I can say that I went in feeling tired, a bit nervous and having some imposter syndrome. But... I got out of my head, dropped into my heart and I trusted my experience and intuition. I know I can't please everyone but the feedback was very good and tears were shed.
I am thankful to Erin O'Brien and Riane DaSilva for curating this event, rentals and promotion and for holding space....The Denman Dance Temple Team! Thankful to bones and builders of the building and the lodge that we danced in. Thankful for the land and our Ancestors. Thankful for all who showed up to Dance and Be in the experience. There were people there from 4 different islands! I had a friend show up that I have known for over 25 years and who was there with me in my very early days of DJ'ing. We shared some sweet moments. What she shared afterwards really had me reflect on all that has happened in the past 25 years. We had oracle cards there and I had one literally fall out of the deck as we were setting up: "Metamorphosis is naturally destructive" - I couldn't believe this because when I was very very unwell I had this card up on my windowsill for about a year, maybe more. So seeing ti again having come through that experience had me in awe. "Pleasure Is Power" also came up and I smiled because one of the tracks in the set is called "Pleasure" I covered the bass bin with some purple velvet and I put the card there. I suggested that people bring their cards and place them there if they wanted something to be amplified or boosted. Erin and Riane had cute little pieces of paper and I suggested they could bring those there too and Erin suggested to put them in the fire! Yes, there was a wood-stove! At the end I read some of the cards out ... after a minute of chimes and silence. ~~~ Here are the bits and pieces that showed up before the event and the words that I had written as well that I shared before the event... First, I thought of my friend's poetry book "shaping pearls". I knew she written during a particularly challenging time in her life and I knew I'd find something there. With her permission I was able to share it: *tender beginnings by Caroline Miskenack blush is the air of morning. Tender are its hands that lift your eyes to see the gravity of innocence pulling you toward acceptance so that you may remember your inherent goodness. so that you may begin, again. ~~~ Then, these words came out of me and I posted it to Facebook and IG to help promote the event: Exceptional leaders don't impart just vision, rather they cultivate the emergence of vision. ~Sudha Murty I wouldn't call myself an exceptional leader but I do like curating, cultivating and co-creating spaces and events where we can come to-gather and share our visions, our voice, our energy. In community we find the courage to show up, we listen, we activate, we grow, we co-create and hopefully we begin shifting paradigms. We change narratives, we stand for things. We speak for those who can't, we dance for freedom. Today is a new day to emerge. Denman Dance Temple: Super Charged Spring Emergence ~~~ And then I wrote this while sitting in the car whilst on the Denman Ferry ... reflecting on emergence—not just in nature, but within ourselves. What does the theme "Emergence" mean to me? When I imagine the word emergence I think of a seed being planted in fertile soil. I see and feel the rain. And soon a little sprout emerges. The sun shares its love, heat and energy to call the little sprout upward. Invitation: Today, I wonder who has been cultivating and preparing the soil? Who is planting seeds? And who has already been emerging, growing, blossoming? Whose Soul may simply be in a liminal space? ~~~ Let's dance each other home... starting with ourselves. If you like what you hear, I'd love a heart and / or share. Comments on the Soundcloud upload really help to get the music out there too. Thank you. Happy International Women's Day! I love that around the world people are coming together around the world to celebrate the feminine.
I have decided to stay in today to work on my projects as I have some dreams that were put on hold that are now resurfacing and coming true. I am aware that many of my friends are gathering today to share poetry, music, art and much more. I see you. I love you. Here is a playlist that I started putting together in 2016 when I was invited to DJ an event in Squamish that showcased local women artists. It was a beautiful event that my dear friend Patricia Robinson curated and was absolutely lovely in every way. Just like her. I have been adding to this playlist now for 9 years. It spotlights all kinds of women in all styles of music from as far back as I can find. I often listen to this playlist when I am looking for inspiration. Whatever path you've chosen or perhaps you're enduring a lot of struggle, I honour your womanhood. Let's keep on rising, loving unconditionally, and nurturing as women do... and for those who are extra loud and take up extra space... Let NO ONE get your freakin way! YOU pave the way for the rest of us and sadly you'll likely get criticized for that now but one we'll look back and be ever so thankful. THANK YOU xoxo I hope you in-joy this playlist and share it with your friends! spoti.fi/3FeJWrC Please share your favourite song by your favourite female artist in the comments -- and I'll add it in! #internationalwomensday #women #womeninbusiness #womensupportingwomen #babesknowbabes
I was so ber doober stoked to be heading back to my old stomping grounds for GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN!
I managed to record my second set, which started at about 1:00am. Starts with House, goes into some Breaks and then I topped it off with some Garage. I had such a blast playing back to 30 minute sets with Mihajic Touch, Toshi in Love & J9. Going back to Golden BC, where it all began, filled my heart right up! Thank you Tracy Mihajic and to our super sweet buds who came out to play and visit. Also to everyone who reached out in messages to say hi. We felt cared for and loved! It was a a whirlwind but 100% worth it. If you have a minute- would go and send a Heart on my set? This really helps. Also make a comment or two andermmm, repost?!!! It's so very much appreciated! > soundcloud.com/djsprout/2025-girls-just-want-to-have-fun-dj-sprout-30-mins-set-2 Love all-ways xoxo ~ Tammra Track IDs DJ Susan, Rich DietZ - Everything Off (Ante Up) (Extended Mix) Good Times Ahead - Rhythm Of The Night (Original Mix) Joshwa - Mercy (Extended) (Extended) Austin Millz, Kah-lo - Hot & Mysterious (Extended Mix) Brothers Of Funk - Hype Da Funk (Original Mix) Groove Armada, Declan Knapp - Superstylin' (Extended Mix) DJ Fixx, Ondamike - Cry Little Sister (VIP Mix) The Darrow Chem Syndicate - The Return Of The Living Bomb (Huda Hudia & DJ30A vs Kid Panel Remix) Brothers Of Funk - Make My Day (ODM Remix) Riordan, Ellis Moss - GETAWAY (Extended Mix) I played 2 other sets and will be playing those tracks out over this year. I had Soul much fun. I was quite nervous tbh! I feel like I have a much better idea now of how to curate these ecstatic dance sets "better" going forward now. I am LOVING mixing in some very new styles for me!
I chose this theme for many reasons. I have learned to become so aware of my thoughts. I observe and ask, are these my own thoughts? If I hear myself ruminating, I ask what is so important about this, that it requires repeating? Am I truly listening? If I start talking in circles or for too long, I wonder if maybe I'm nervous (and why) or wonder if I just don't feel heard. So, rather than re-acting and try answering with my thinking brain, I do my best to drop into my Heart Soul space and let my thoughts land there. I ask, "What would my heart say /do?" I am ALWAYS surprised at how this information, this deep knowing, is very different than from what I would have ever created with my rational thinking brain. Always. So the same applies when I am Dj'ing and dancing in intentional spaces. Am I performing? Am I connected heart to heart? Soul to Soul? Does my body actually want to move this way? I drop in, I commune with my infinite Soul Wisdom and what becomes, becomes. It quite often brings me so much peace and joy... Or an opportunity for deeper retrospection / introspection and integration. I invite you to ask: "What would my heart do?" "What does my Soul long for?" Listen to - Heart & Soul @ Comox Dance Temple - DJ sprouT by DJ sprouT on Soundcloud https://on.soundcloud.com/yhfADRFF2A1PVcPw5 ~~~~ There are no pictures or videos allowed at Dance Temple but I can say with all my heart that the love was palpable. I am not sure how many people were there but I am pretty sure I saw about 70ish smiling, sweaty faces! All ages. The youngest being under a year! Thank you Dance Temple Comox Valley Aaron Handford for inviting me and Mark Play-Full Events for setting up your gear, and being my lead / space holder for the day! What a sweet community. I was so honoured to have been a guest today! Thank you Joanna Finch sharing your sound healing skills. You're a sweetheart. Today I dedicated my set to my Mom Georgina Lewis to our beloved little Ivan #ivanthecuddler who left his body this past September. He's the reason I decided to become a Dance Temple Tender and I have met so many wicked peeps because of it. Thanks to the DT team and volunteers and my wicked hubbub Tony Hasenkrug supporting with holding space, setup and teardown. Seeing my besties out there sending me the good vibes is everything. Next up, Denman Dance Temple: Super Charged Spring Emergence March 15th! Already curating that set! It's always interesting how different vibes and little bits of inspiration come to me at the most random times. Like I get glimpses into the future. I really didn't think I'd be DJing again this much after having quite a bit of trouble with my health over the past seven years. BUT, back in December, I seemingly climbed out of a dark hole and have been playing pretty much non-stop every weekend since, culminating in this last EPIC weekend at Wicked Woods Music Festival! What a beautiful way to not only end the summer, but also mark a beautiful return to the music festival scene. Wicked Woods is held in Fairmont Hot Springs in the Columbia Valley, which is actually where it all began for me back in the late '90s.
I decided to move to Vancouver Island in 2009, and yes, I’ve been back to play, but the last time I was in the Columbia Valley was in 2017! It was so incredibly amazing to see SO MANY buddies at this event. It felt like a real homecoming! I am forever grateful to Tracy Mihajic and Murphy for believing in me and supporting me to show up and rock a two-hour Monday morning set at The Unicorn Lounge! I had the best time! Watching the sun come over the mountains and shine on everyone's faces was such a treat. Thank you to everyone who showed up and shared the Love! I had so many friends surrounding me, it felt like a dream. And, I am always so grateful for the ongoing love and support of my wicked husband, Tony. I likely wouldn't have been able to make it, if not for him. This set is also dedicated to our sweet little Ivan The Cuddler (our cat of 14 years) who sadly passed on the same day that I played this set. We'll miss you buddy but your love will always live on in hearts I hope you enjoy listening to this set as much as I loved dj'ing it! Huge props to all the producers who work tirelessly to make such great music! I'd absolutely love if you'd support this mix by liking, sharing and commenting. It all helps so much! I had so much fun pulling out some of my fave breakbeat tracks! This was an impromptu, end-of-night, wingin-it, breaks set. I hope you enjoy it as much as I loved playing it!
A group of wicked people came in at the end of the night, at The Nanaimo Bar, and we got DOWN & DOOTY!!! xo sprouT
Hi friends! This is a LIVE House Mix I played this past weekend at Ace Brewing and it was one of many. It's called Fierce & Fragile.
This one is special because these are tracks I've never recorded before. Please keep in mind, this was a casual event where people are talking to me - but I love these songs. So not performing really, mingling and dj'ing... Saving my 2024 tracks for my upcoming events - stay tuned! Much Love ALL WAYS ~ sprouT
I've created the Playlist on Spotify too...
I am SO stoked to have had the opportunity to close out the night at the Waverley Hotel in Cumberland, BC.
I absolutely adore this community. Since I first lived in the Comox Valley (2009-2010), and went to shows at the "Wave", and other events (that I had the honor of being a part of) such as The Big Time Out, the Big Day Up and many more... I have found the people (promoters and dancers alike) to always be super supportive and not a lot of "donkeys' lol, really truly though, my kind of peeps for sure. They are really all about the music! Now that I live here again, it was awesome to see Vig, from Cumlerland Village Works, still at it! It's been great to reconnect with him. I believe that I did meet Ben back in 2009 but I can't remember how... well, anyways, he now has a company called Mt. Eliah (aka Long Shot Events) and one of his latest, big projects, is the Pachena Bay Festival. Him and Vig are responsible for many of the great shows that come to the Waverley. Being a newbie, here (again) in the Comox Valley, it's important that I get myself immersed into the community and thankfully, Ben & Vig started up an event that supports up and coming djs, as well as provides an opportunity for those of us that are new to the area called OPEN DECKS. My hubby caught a few snippets of my set and I've posted it to my Video page I will be adding a second video - of all of the djs from that night and their info. They were all amazing people and I definitely made some new, very good, friends. Plus, met some lovely peeps who stayed until the end for the love of music! I'm so grateful. ᙭O ᔕᑭᖇOᑌT

Ah! It's been a while since I've made an Indie Dance / Nu Disco Mix and to be honest I don't think I have ever done one exclusively just these two genres. In-Joy!
Important Note: on Mixcloud - there is a tiny glitch at the beginning - but this was not recorded on my end - so it's not in the download link... jus'so'ya'know!
I was so honoured to have been invited to dj a set at Artist Chad Depner's Closing Party & Auction at _space - BC's first interchangeable arts & alternative healing centre https://spaceartscentre.com/depner-beauty-isnt-always-pretty Peep Depner on: FB: https://www.facebook.com/chad.depner IG: https://www.instagram.com/depnerdesigns I went with my gut and these are the tracks that I finally chose. I am feeling a call-back to play more Breaks again and have been loving Bass House ... and of course, as always you'll find some tech, progressive-ish house, a touch of techno and always a remix or 2... Please share a comment or I'd love if you gave me a review on my Facebook Page >>> https://www.facebook.com/djsprouT/ Let Love Rule xo ~ Tammra PS: You rock COVER ART: Chad Depner
Hi Groovers!
Soooo... I've been wanting to complete Pt. 2 of my "Music Is The Answer". These are songs I've wanted to put together since Dec. 2018 -- so my next mix will be tracks from 2019 - but I didn't want these to go unheard... I've decided that I am going back to the way I've always mixed - starting with about 115 BPM- and then journeying through to about 125bpm (likely in 2 parts like this one) - and will be including nu-disco, indie dance, all kind of house and breaks. Yay! I am also enjoying so many different kinds of music and hope to make more mixes for intuitive dance, world music and more. Stay tuned.
